Planning Permission Approved for Cranogwen Statue, and Major Grant Awarded

The Cerflun Cymunedol Cranogwen Community Monument Team is delighted to announce that planning permission has been granted for the statue of Cranogwen, Llangrannog’s pioneering heroine, and the redevelopment of the village garden which surrounds it.

The statue will be 2.3 metres in total, including the plinth. The garden will retain original features such as the slate walls, and will improve access with a new entrance and disabled access. A new stone floor and curved central path will include some of Cranogwen’s poetry. There will be new seating and planting.

The planning report said: “The proposal is adjudged to constitute a betterment of the public garden through an appropriate and attractive design to commemorate a figure of local and national significance. [It is] considered to be an enhancement to the immediate and wider landscape.”

The project team has secured funding for the statue, including a newly-awarded £18,000 grant from Ceredigion County Council’s Community Grant scheme.

Fundraising for the garden redevelopment continues, with a Duck Race planned on Llangrannog beach on Easter Monday. If you would like to donate to the cause (or buy a duck), please contact us or use GoFundMe: https://gofund.me/5ce4bf44
